This work is inspired by revisiting the many ghostly encounters I experienced growing up in a haunted house in a haunted town. I hope to capture the moment of seeing or feeling a ghost, or at least how I have experienced those moments. In a broader sense, the work is about the intersection of fear and curiosity, perhaps more often felt when waking up from a nightmare, seeing a figure out of the corner of your eye, or feeling like someone is behind you as you walk down a dark hallway.

The black ink and white paper contrast with each other and illuminate the sharp shapes that float in the dark. Stars, circles, and lines of all varieties lead the eye around the work, encouraging curiosity to both look closer and stand afar. With this work, I rekindled my relationship with my younger self, a very spooky child who saw things others didn’t.
